I\u2019ve always lucked out with gorgeous weather in January. I love the mellow vibe right during the last part of the month. That said, showers are often brief and followed by sunshine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019ve been to Hawaii before, you already know: the weather can shift quickly from one microclimate to the next &#8211; on any island, during any season. On rainier days, we just head to the leeward (south and west) sides of the islands &#8211; they tend to stay drier year-round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-january-weather-stats-across-the-hawaiian-islands\">January Weather Stats Across the Hawaiian Islands<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Weather can vary quite a bit depending on which island (and which side of the island!) you&#8217;re on. It has all 5 star reviews with a ton of other Hawaii visitors that agree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whale activity is strongest off the coast of Maui, especially around Lahaina and Ma\u02bbalaea Bay. But you can spot them from land on every island. Here\u2019s where to look:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Oahu<\/strong>: Makapu\u02bbu Lighthouse Trail &#8211; a favorite for sweeping coastal views and spouts offshore. Whether you\u2019re running along the coast or leaning into a post-holiday reset, this island makes it easy to start the year off right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-6-run-in-or-cheer-on-a-marathon\">6. Run In (Or Cheer On!) A Marathon<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Held each January, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mauioceanfrontmarathon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Maui Oceanfront Marathon<\/a> takes runners from Wailea to Lahaina, offering stunning ocean views and a mix of athletic challenge + island vibes.  Running with a Maui backdrop is always a better way to run!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-7-snorkel-in-clear-protected-waters\">7. Snorkel In Clear Protected Waters<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Spend some time on Maui&#8217;s beloved <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/AyBRt1CdpUMvosyE9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Kaanapali Beach<\/a>, and plan to snorkel at <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/xs4DGixwKvP5FXQZ9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Black Rock<\/a>.  Black Rock is a volcanic rock that is known for its nightly cliff diving ceremony. It offers the best up-close experiences (both from shore and on the water). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every island has its charm this time of year, though. Kauai and the Island of Hawaii tend to be less crowded, while Oahu gives you a little of everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-is-hawaii-swimmable-in-january\">Is Hawaii swimmable in January?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes! The ocean is warm year-round in Hawaii. Be mindful of winter ocean conditions in January, though &#8211; especially on north shores, where waves can get rough.
